The Lumber River Area Agency on Aging provides support to meet the needs of older adults in the region through coordination and provision of comprehensive services, development of resources to serve older adults and advocating on behalf of older adults and caregivers. Three programs are outlined below through which services related to End of Life care are provided.
Family Caregiver Support Services

When an older relative or friend becomes sick, frail or disabled, families often step up to help care for them at home for as long as possible. The Family Caregiver Support Program was created to ease some of the stress on caregivers by assisting with and responding to their needs through an array of supporting services. If you are helping an older adult with paying bills, transportation, preparing meals, personal care, errands and doctor’s appointments, then you are a caregiver.
*Respite and supplemental services require that the older adult needing care must be unable to perform 2 or more daily living activities (eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring or walking.)
Ombudsman
An ombudsman is an advocate for residents’ rights. An ombudsman is responsible for investigating complaints made by, or on behalf of Nursing and Adult Care Home residents. Ombudsmen can work with residents, family members, concerned citizens, facilities, as well as public and private agencies. The goal of the Ombudsman Program is to enhance residents’ quality of care and quality of life.
