Sandy Plains United Methodist Church was organized in 1906 by Lumbee Methodists under a bush arbor and is now a stable pillar in the community. We are known for producing leaders in the community and the church. Over the past 50 years there have been 19 Christian Leaders — 16 of which have been clergy — who have come out of Sandy Plains. Pastor Prentis Harris, III, was raised in the Prospect community.
The Foster Jacobs’ Emergency Fund as well as a food pantry is utilized to provide assistance to “the least of these.” The Sandy Plains United Methodist Women is a very active chapter with numerous outreach and nurturing activities.
Since 1997 the church has been providing childcare services for the local community and was awarded the Best Childcare Center in Robeson County during 2014. Sandy Plains Day Care is for infants – 4 years old. Sandy Plains Day Care currently has 101 children enrolled with a full-time director/teacher, 19 Full/Part Time teachers, and a cook.
